What to Separate Before a Shed Cleanout

Start with liquids and chemicals. Fuel, paint, pesticides, pool chemicals and unknown containers should not be mixed into an ordinary junk-removal load.

Shed Cleanout planning scene

Make a hazardous-material zone

Leave containers closed and upright. Follow the product label and local household hazardous-waste guidance; do not pour liquids out or combine them.

Choose the tools that stay

Hand tools disappear easily in mixed piles. Put keepers in one bin or mark a shelf that the crew should not touch.

Separate wet and loose yard material

Bag dry, accepted yard debris when appropriate. Mention wet material, soil, concrete or heavy landscape pieces because they change handling and pricing.

Check the route

Measure gates, move hoses and secure pets. Point out soft ground, steep steps or low branches between the shed and the truck.
